New to BTC. I have some sats in an Alby wallet and want to send as BTC to freewallet but can’t figure out: a) how to swap BTC lightning for BTC and then b) where to store that exchanged BTC because Alby won’t do that it seems. Thanks for any advice for the newbie.

Wallet of Satoshi is probably the easiest LN wallet (onboard, pay,receive,offboard) be aware it IS custodial so don’t keep life changing amounts on it.
A more secure (other tradeoffs) is Muun wallet. It is non-custodial.
